Gordon Chamberlain Memorial Scholarship

Our cougar community lost a valuable member, Gordon Chamberlain, on May 2nd. Gordon served in many roles in the Olympia School District over the years including interim assistant principal and dean of students at Capital High School. We remember the amazing man, mentor, friend, co-worker, and family man who dedicated his life to teaching and mentoring students. He could connect with people like nobody else and always made you feel welcome and important. That was just Gordon. Mr. Chamberlain will be missed by so many, but never forgotten, as he had such a positive impact on all he knew.

Capital High School staff wanted to set up a memorial scholarship in Gordon’s name. With permission from Gordon’s wife, Dawn, they have done so. She has requested the scholarship criteria not have a GPA requirement and that it be given to a student that Gordon would have liked to work with.

The scholarship is being facilitated through the Capital High School Scholarship Foundation. They are hoping to fund this scholarship ($1,000 is the goal) through donations from CHS staff or anyone else who is interested. Please feel free to forward this message to others you know would be interested in honoring Gordon through this scholarship. Every little bit helps the Foundation reach the goal and celebrate Gordon. The scholarship committee will be holding the deliberation meeting on May 14th and are hoping to know by then if enough money has been raised to award this scholarship.

If you have any questions about the Foundation or the scholarship please reach out to Amanda Beers, CHS visual communications teacher.

Donations to the scholarship can be made through the Foundation’s PayPal account (works best from your phone) or by using the Foundation’s email address chsscholarshipfoundation@gmail.com if you use PayPal from your computer.

OSD counselors and social workers are available to help with this loss. Please email the communications department at communications@osd.wednet.edu for assistance.

“Never underestimate the valuable and important difference you make in every life you touch. For the impact you make today has a powerful rippling effect on every tomorrow.”
